Career in Mobile Barbering: Key Things You Need to Know

We believe most of us are too familiar with seeing barbers working in physical barbershops or hair salons, but not so with seeing mobile barbers who mostly work on-call. What does it mean to be a mobile barber? What are their primary responsibilities? Where to find them? In this blog, CADMEN Barbershop will explain some key terms you should know about mobile barbering and how you can start a new career in it.

Who is a mobile barber?

As their name suggests, mobile barbers are those who aren't always working on-site. They can work part-time at a physical shop, but most of the time they work for themselves, cutting clients at a location of the client's choice, such as their homes, hotels, weddings, and other events that require barbers to be on-site to provide hair services to the attendant.

Perks of being a mobile barber

Like any other personal-care occupation, being a mobile barer is extremely rewarding. You help people look good and feel good about themselves, and this good feeling will follow them for the entire event or weeks after. You make them shine at the most precious moments of their lives, such as their weddings or significant anniversaries. Nothing can compare to this wonderful feeling.

Additionally, as a mobile barber, you will be the boss of your own most of the time. You don't have to follow a fixed schedule as you work in a barbershop. You can even keep your day jobs and cut hair when you are available to do.

Recent tractions: Recently, the need for mobile barbers has been picking up due to the "new normal" induced by the long lock-down: People prefer doing everything from home and getting things delivered to their places. This is a worth considering point if you think about becoming a mobile barber at the moment.

How to become a mobile barber

Except for not being present at a physical shop all the time, becoming a mobile barber is not different from becoming a regular barber. You still have to learn how to cut hair, market yourself, build clientele, and constantly update yourself with new trends and barber techniques.

There are many ways you can learn how to cut hair, either:

  • Online on your own

  • Working as an apprentice in a barbershop

  • Taking one-on-one class sessions with experienced barbers or

  • Enrolling in a formal barber school.

With 19+ years in the hair industry, we have seen them all - successful barbers who are either self-taught or trained in school. At CADMEN Barbershop, we offer an online program called "Barbering for Beginners" that aims at aspiring barbers at an affordable price.
